A North African port city where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean marry

…just think of Tangier's history as an international zone, or all the famous artists that fell in love with it and meant to spend a week or a month only and ended up staying there their whole life until it swallowed them in its earth. Tangier was and is energetic, very likeable, extremely individual with an enduring peculiarity. A place, where the familiar boundaries of language, culture, nationality, and sexuality blur. With the king’s great interest and efforts, Tangier has now become one of the most important cities in Morocco and North Africa.

"I am not a revolutionary…I am a rebellious person who doesn't know stability....I do not consider myself a Moroccan writer. I classify myself as a Tangierian writer. I want to be remembered as the roaming history writer of this city and the chronicler of its dirty nightlife." Mohammed Choukri

and, not to forget: the real-life model for the famous Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman was not Casablanca, but Tangier.
